EuroTier 2020 – Animal farming during the corona pandemic
As with all sectors of the economy, agriculture and livestock farmers are not immune to the effects of the corona crisis. But we believe that the time to act is now so that we can emerge from the crisis stronger. This is also true for EuroTier, which will be held together with EnergyDecentral in Hanover from 17 to 20 November 2020. Karl Schlösser, EuroTier project manager, gives an update on the state of preparations and the challenges in corona times.
Many trade fairs had to be cancelled or postponed in the past few weeks. Will EuroTier be able to go ahead in November?
First of all, we have had a very good number of registrations. Since the show will not open its gates before November, we currently see no reason to doubt that the fair will take place. Of course, DLG takes the developments around the corona virus very seriously and is watching the situation very closely. It will no doubt take any measures that may be deemed necessary. We are in close communication with the Hanover fairgrounds and the relevant authorities. We are confident in every respect that EuroTier 2020 will be offering livestock farmers reassurance, guidance and opportunities, even in these difficult times.
The tense economic situation is also affecting agriculture. How do you see the prospects?
The corona pandemic is clearly having an impact on the agricultural industry. Yet consumers are reliant on products from agriculture and the food industry, even in times of crisis. Therefore the economic downturn is unlikely to be as severe in agriculture as it is in the wider economy. We are convinced that the national and international livestock farming industry will not wait until autumn to plan for 2021. From that time on, we anticipate a high demand for information on pending investments and catch-up effects. As the world's leading trade fair for livestock professionals, EuroTier offers the ideal platform to shop for innovative offers and learn about the latest developments in the industry.
How do you think the situation will evolve in the run-up to EuroTier?
I expect the situation to ease up by autumn. As we become more knowledgeable about the virus we can implement suitable hygiene measures to prevent its spread. Together with our sales and travel partners, we are watching the developments in national and international travel very closely in order to be able to respond rapidly.
What can visitors expect at EuroTier 2020?
The guiding theme of this year's EuroTier is "Farming in the food chain". It will focus on the role of livestock farming – and agriculture as a whole – as an important link and responsible partner in the value chain of food production. This is an extremely important topic, especially in the current situation. Visitors to the world's leading livestock trade fair can look forward to a range of specialist exhibits covering all types of livestock, and to a technical programme covering all aspects of animal welfare and emission reduction, husbandry and feeding, management and controlling, and marketing issues.

Will EuroTier and EnergyDecentral go ahead as planned in the week of 17- 20 November 2020?
We at DLG are currently working on the assumption that the EuroTier and EnergyDecentral trade fairs will take place as planned. We are closely monitoring current developments with regard to Covid-19 and are in direct contact with both the Hanover Fairgrounds and the relevant authorities. The close liaison between all the organisations involved ensures that any updates are communicated promptly and that the measures already in place can be adapted in line with any subsequent reassessment of the situation. As usual, our customer service team is always available to answer your questions and to inform you in good time about any changes.
Do the dates and conditions of participation for exhibitors remain unchanged?
All dates and conditions of participation remain valid. In the event of withdrawal or non-participation by exhibitors, the terms of participation apply. We will inform you about any changes in good time.
What are the special factors that exhibitors should take into account in making their travel plans?
We advise you to check regularly with the relevant authorities to find out about the latest restrictions on international travel. If you have any questions regarding your flight, train or hotel bookings, please contact the respective provider.
What sort of hygiene controls will be put in place?
We are currently developing a range of hygiene concepts for EuroTier and EnergyDecentral and are in regular contact with Deutsche Messe AG in Hanover as site operator, and with the relevant authorities. We will inform you in greater detail about the specific controls nearer the time.

Untrustworthy exhibitor directory offers
The Association of the German Trade Fair Industry (AUMA) warns of unofficial exhibitor directories that are targeting exhibitors in the run up to trade fairs, offering to provide customers with entries in inferior, sub-standard online directories. Their terms may stipulate long-term obligations to pay several thousand euros, which are generally hidden in the small print.
